College of Charleston Adds New Academic Programs

The College of Charleston has some exciting news for prospective students tonight!

The College has added a whole host of new academic programs starting in the 2019-2020 school year, including an exciting Systems Engineering degree. That program now offers the only Bachelors of Science in Systems Engineering in the State of South Carolina, according to the press release. Students in the program will have career opportunities in a variety of industries including defense manufacturing, health care, energy, and the tech industry. The curriculum for that major was hand-picked by a task force of engineers from companies like Mercedes-Benz, Boeing, and Bosch.

There were other programs added for this school year, too! Here is a list of the programs the College now offers:


  • A Concentration in Literature, offered through the School of Professional Studies
  • A Concentration in Literature, Film, and Cultural Studies, offered through Department of English
  • A Concentration in in Public History, offered jointly with the Citadel for students enrolled in the College's Master of Arts in History program
  • An Undergraduate Certification in Sustainability and 21st Century Business Solutions, offered through the School of Professional Studies
  • A Graduate Certificate in Arts and Cultural Management, which will replace the College's Art Management Certificate
