CHARLESTON, S.C. (WCIV) — A curfew will be in place for the City of Charleston as a safety precaution on Friday night.
During an emergency Charleston City Council meeting, leaders decided that a curfew would be active for the peninsula only beginning at 9 p.m.
The curfew will end on Saturday morning at 6 a.m.

Charleston Police Chief Luther Reynolds said extra staffing of police would be on hand. The National Guard is also ready to respond, however, authorities are hoping their support won't be necessary.
This all comes after some looting and rioting following largely peaceful protests last weekend. This led to dozens of arrests, with the chief noting that many of those apprehended were from the Tri-County area, but not the city itself.
City leaders plan to wait to decide on a possible curfew for Saturday.
