Kyoto Animation: All Past Materials & Computers Destroyed In Fire

Speaking to the media following the tragic fire at Kyoto Animation’s 1st studio building, company president Hideaki Hatta has confirmed that all past animation materials and computers at the 1st studio building were destroyed, with the monetary value of the damage described as “extreme”.

Hideaki Hatta is also reported as saying “I am deeply heartbroken. I can’t bear it. I never even in my dreams would have thought such a large disaster could happen”, later adding “This is a serious blow to our company and our industry. Every one of them was an excellent and wonderful colleague.”.

On 18 July 2019, thirty-three people were killed and thirty-five injured in an arson attack on the beloved anime studio. The identities of the deceased have yet to be publicly confirmed, while the suspect has been detained and is currently being treated for his injuries. North American distributor Sentai Filmworks have launched a GoFundMe for Kyoto Animation, which has raised over $1.4 Million (£1.1 Million), largely by small donations from a large number of fans worldwide.
