As reports surfaced linking Boise State offensive coordinator Zak Hill to Arizona State to take the same position, one report indicated that Oregon State offensive coordinator Brian Lindgren declined the chance to become ASU’s OC.

The news came from ESPN’s Adam Rittenberg, whose report would imply that Hill was not ASU’s first choice to fill the job left vacant with the departure of Rob Likens, whom the school elected not to retain.

Even the arrival of Hill is short of being a sure thing, as Rittenberg indicated in his report that Hill “has spoken with ASU about its vacancy but no deal has been reached at this time,” adding also that Hill may be looking at other Pac-12 jobs.

Lindgren’s offense with the Beavers this year was 58th in the country in total offense (ASU was 89th) and 50th in points per game with 31.2 (ASU was 94th with 25.2).

Oregon State went 5-7 this year with quarterback Jake Luton playing 11 games, passing for 2,714 yards, 28 touchdowns and only three interceptions for a 149.8 passer rating and 62.0% completion rate.

It wasn’t immediately clear whether Lindgren intended to remain at Oregon State under head coach Jonathan Smith or if he has opportunities to coach elsewhere.

The Oregon Ducks have a vacancy at offensive coordinator after Marcus Arroyo took the head job at UNLV, which could attract the attention of either Lindgren or Hill. Oregon finished No. 7 in the nation and went 11-2.
