Greyhounds, Henderson Win Findlay Classic

FINDLAY, Ohio – The UIndy women's golf team (291-299-296) secured victory at a key region event Tuesday, besting the 17-team field at the William Beall Fall Classic, held at Findlay Country Club in Findlay, Ohio. With sophomore Cailyn Henderson and senior Pilar Echeverria taking the top two spots, the Greyhounds won the two-day, 54-hole tournament by 22 strokes.

"I'm extremely proud of this win," Head Coach Brent Nicoson remarked. "We have so much respect for the University of Findlay program, and they are very tough to beat on their home course. They are well coached and very talented, this is a good win for us."

Henderson UF winHenderson (right) secured her first collegiate individual medal with an impressively consistent performance. The Carmel, Ind., native carded scores of 71-73-72 to shoot even-par of the event and top the field by three strokes.

"Cailyn works so hard and is relentless in her pursuit to get better," added Nicoson. "It makes me so proud for her to get her first collegiate win. She didn't have her best ball-striking weekend but found a way to put up very solid scores.

"This win is very well deserved and will go a long way for her gaining confidence moving forward."

Meanwhile, Echeverria (68-76-75) opened her tournament Monday with a four-under 68, matching her collegiate low. The reigning DII Player of the Year finished at +3 overall to take runner-up and all-tournament. She has placed first or second in all three fall events and currently sports a sparkling 252-2-1 (.990) head-to-head record on the year.

Junior Anna Kramer (74-77-75) also grabbed a top-10 spot, sharing sixth place among the 96 participants. Freshman Hunter Nugent (83-74-74) employed a strong finish to tie for 17th, while freshman Catharina Graf (78-76-82) shared 27th.

Two more Greyhounds made the trip as individual competitors; freshman Katelyn Skinner (72-75-84) was the highest-finishing individual at 17th, while sophomore Daniela Gomez (81-83-81) settled at 55th.
