North of Atlanta, own this ‘magnificent’ castle of stone for $1M

Massive property an hour from Midtown offers chance to get medieval on 28 acres

A castle for sale north of Atlanta.
A royal residence in Ranger, GA.

This could be as close to the Middle Ages as North Georgia living gets.

Nestled on 28 enchanting acres, replete with a mountain stream, serene lake, and ancient-looking arched bridge, this “magnificent stone castle” from 2005 is billed as a private retreat like few others.

Punctuated by four turrets, it stands about an hour from Midtown, or 65 miles northwest, between Interstate 75 and the Chattahoochee National Forest. The setting includes meadows, rolling wooded hills, and views to mountains in the distance, per the listing.

Moving inside, the twin red-carpeted staircases in the foyer are somehow expected, with ornate iron railings leading up to truly overside bedrooms. The overall room count (four bedrooms, three and a half bathrooms) could seem low for a property of almost 9,100 square feet.

But behind an unsubtle facade like this, it’s no surprise that interior proportions go large.

An upstairs social area, with gilded ceilings seen throughout.

Speaking of, the main dining area is positioned in a 35-foot turret, with cherry inlaid floors beneath. Other highlights include the triple-sink kitchen, the property’s onsite workshop/barn, and pool grounds befitting grill-happy aristocracy.

Once listed for as high as $2.8 million in 2009, the property has undergone numerous pricing swings and delistings over the years before a final posted reduction to $1 million in April.

Some listing services indicate the home finally sold for $900,000 last week, but we’ve reached out to Keller Williams Realty First Atlanta, where the listing is still active, to ensure that information is accurate. Expected this post to be updated if it is.

A grand foyer fit for North Georgia royalty.
The kitchen counts three sinks.
The vaulted master bedroom also occupies a turret.
The immense master bath suite.
What appears to be a large solarium/terrarium with numerous entry points and a hot tub. And ceiling clouds.
The pool area counts serene lake views and covered space for grilling and dining.
