Northwest of Midtown, the charming cottage is a Whittier Mill Village original

Atlantans are known for being fiercely if not comically loyal to their neighborhoods, but this sounds extreme: “This is a great community where neighbors never leave, they just move to another [home] in the neighborhood.”

That’s the listing’s description for this charming 19th-century cottage’s setting in Whittier Mill Village, a historic community built for millworkers that hugs the Chattahoochee River, west of Midtown and Buckhead near Interstate 285.

Only half a dozen homes that predate 1900 are available across Atlanta at the moment, and most of those are pricey, elaborate spreads with Victorian roots. This is different.

Constructed in 1896—just after the cotton mill that lent the neighborhood its name—this three-bedroom abode showcases a bevy of original touches on a smaller scale. Those include hardwood floors throughout, a brick double-sided gas fireplace, and a porch practically made for sweat-tea sippin’ in a rocking chair. Or in the swinging pod chair.

The porch-heavy facade and double chimneys.

Another cozy aspect is the square footage (1,692)—hardly a surprise, given the vintage. However the backyard, described as a neighborhood leader, allows plenty of room to roam, with views of Whittier Mill’s 13-acre, centerpiece park next door.

None of the two and a half bathrooms are pictured in the listing, although they’re described as being updated; as is the kitchen, with its custom copper range hood, farm sink, and granite.

One major WMV selling point has always been its inclusion in a Buckhead school district, feeding into North Atlanta High School. The listing also points to relatively easy access to everything from The Battery and Westside Park at Bellwood Quarry to Mercedes-Benz Stadium.

Keller Williams Realty holds the listing, which posted this week at $360,000.
