'No toilet, no water': Fury after 800 cruise passengers stranded on 'ghost ship'
Passengers have voiced their outrage after a cruise ship suffered a loss of power off the coast of South Australia, causing chaos.
Cruise and Maritime Voyages confirmed their vessel Vasco Da Gama, which arrived from London, suffered a blackout about 5.45am near Port Adelaide.
The company announced the vessel’s officers initiated a controlled blackout as a precaution against damage to systems onboard with power restored “later in the morning”.
There were 828 people on board.
It reportedly took 90 minutes for passengers to be updated.
One disgruntled passenger told Nine News Vasco De Gama was “the worst cruise ship on the ocean – in my opinion”.
“No power, no lights, no toilet, no water – can’t make coffee,” another man told Nine News.
A passenger named John told the ABC the captain didn’t inform anyone until 7.10am.
"My wife was due for an appointment in town about 11am and has had to cancel the specialist appointment,” John told the ABC.
"There were a number of people who've missed flights and are quite disappointed."
Another passenger named Ian compared the Vasco Da Gama to “a ghost ship”.
He added the experience was “absolutely horrific”.
Cruise and Maritime Voyages warned guests booked for the next cruise on the vessel there may be a small delay following the issue.
The vessel has since docked in Adelaide.
