Barton Springs Brewery and Restaurant Uncle Billy’s Is Now Closed

South Austin brewery and restaurant Uncle Billy’s is now closed on 1530 Barton Springs Road. However, the 13-year-old establishment isn’t gone forever: Uncle Billy’s is moving to an undisclosed address in Dripping Springs, with a projected opening date sometime in early 2020.

Taking over Uncle Billy’s Barton Springs address is local cidery Austin Eastciders, as confirmed by a rep for the company, for a new tasting room. This will be its second in the city, after the Govalle one, which opened in 2017. There are no further details on when it will open or what the space will entail as of yet.

The Dripping Springs location of Uncle Billy’s will feature its production line of distilled spirits and canned cocktails. The new space will allow it to expand those booze offerings and increase distribution. There will be a tasting room too, which will serve Uncle Billy’s barbecue. like brisket, pulled pork, and smoked chicken

However, Uncle Billy’s has no plans to brew beers in the Dripping Springs facility. It had been brewing and canning its own beers through Austin-based Celis Brewery for some time, allowing for retail sales. That stopped earlier this year after Celis went through problems of its own, as noted by Austin 360. Until this shutter, the only place to get Uncle Billy’s beers was at the brewpub itself, available on tap and to-go thanks to the passing of the recent beer to-go bill in the fall. This is no longer the case anymore.
