Popular Texas Sour Pickle Beer Is Now Available in Austin

Sour Pickle Beer
Fort Worth brewery Martin House Brewing Company brewed up a sour pickle beer earlier this year, which sold out quickly. Now the popular briny beer is back again in six-pack form, with availability in Austin this time. This includes Whole Foods in the Domain, Central Market on North Lamar and Westgate, H-E-B in Mueller, and specific Spec’s locations. The beer was made in collaboration with Texas pickle producer Best Maid.

Climbing a Whataburger Mountain
Texas Monthly goes deep into the viral TikTok video of that kid eating a Whataburger burger built with ten whole patties and five slices of cheese, which took place somewhere in North Texas. Writer Dan Solomon noted the man that helped the kid clean up as he was eating, the restaurant crowd supporting him, and the moment when the burger falls apart but he continues to eat.

La Cocina Panel
San Francisco kitchen incubator La Cocina, which focuses on supporting women of color, is participating in an additional non-Texas Book Festival panel this weekend too. La Cocina’s Reem Assil and Emiliana Puyana will talk about the industry with pitmaster Aaron Franklin and host Carpenter Hotel chef Grae Nonas on Sunday, October 27 from 4 to 6 p.m. Tickets range from $20 to $50, the latter including a copy of the book. All ticket sales will go back into La Cocina.

Austin Hostel’s Denver Expansion
Fancier hostel Native is expanding into Denver, with the help of Austin restaurateur C.K. Chin. The company bought land next to Great Divide Brewery in downtown Denver, and it’s currently seeking partnerships from Austin brands looking to expand as well. The hostel teased expansion plans to Nashville, Washington, D.C., and Toronto, among other cities.
