Kome’s Sushi A Go Go Is Coming Back to Austin

The already-very-strong restaurant offerings in the Austin-Bergstrom International Airport continue to get better another upcoming food hall in the transportation hub. Attached is the return of Japanese restaurant Kome’s original food truck Sushi A Go Go, which will serve up rolls and sashimi whenever it opens.

Japanese truck Sushi A Go Go, which was run by Kayo and Take Asazu, focused on sushi (nigiri, rolls, etc.), rice bowls, and assorted appetizers. They closed the truck in 2011 to focus on their then-new restaurant Kome, which opened that same year. The Asazus’s Austin empire has grown since then, with Kome relocating into a larger new space, as well as opening noodle soup spot Daruma Ramen, Japanese coffee shop Sa-ten, combination sushi and ramen food hall stand Ni-Kome, and hand roll and omakase restaurant Uroko.

Also pegged for this new airport food hall is a beer taproom, which will feature branding inspired by local brewery Austin Beerworks as well as probably some beers, but isn’t affiliated with the brewery as noted by co-founder Michael Graha.

The other two restaurants rounding out the space include:

• Noble Sandwich Co., which will make this airport location the only remaining restaurant of the Austin sandwich mini-chain, since the original one closed last month.
• Zocalo Café, which, similarly to Noble, will become the only location of the fast-casual restaurant since the Clarksville location closed earlier this year. (The West Lynn address is now home to a new location of Taco Flats).

Also opening in the airport, though not within the food hall, are those already-known locations of Parkside and 24 Diner. The former will be the second-ever location of New American downtown restaurant Parkside from chef Shawn Cirkiel and his hospitality group Parkside Projects. (The company also opened its juice bar Jugo this month). The latter will be the second or third location of ELM Restaurant Group’s all-hours spot 24 Diner, since that long-announced Rock Rose one is apparently still happening, despite earlier problems.

Then, the airport is adding to its non-local offerings by adding Starbucks to the mix. Already there’s wine bar Vino Volo and the combination Einstein Bros. Bagels/Caribou Coffee.

All of these specific new restaurants for the airport will be found in the East Terminal of the Barbara Jordan Terminal, run by HMSHost (the rest of the airport’s food and drink services are run by Delaware North or Paradies Lagardère). There are no projected opening dates as of yet.
