Save Chick-fil-A Bill Passes
Texas Governor Greg Abbot signed the “Save Chick-fil-A” bill. It was created in response to the San Antonio City Council blocking the fast food chain from opening in the city’s airport due to its anti-LGBTQ donations. (Another councilperson apologized for its decision and the mayor said it was more because they wanted to focus on local restaurants in the airport.)

The bill states that the government isn’t allowed to make decisions based on people and companies’ “membership, support, or donations to religious groups,” as reported by CNN. The bill originally contained approval to punish those that didn’t follow the bill, but that was removed before Abbot signed it. The Federal Aviation Administration is also looking into the original decision.

Chinese Food Pizza Collaboration
Pizzeria 40 North and Chinese restaurant Old Thousand are collaborating on special pies and egg rolls. The mapo pizza pies will be topped with fennel pork, fermented chili marinara, pickled Chinese broccoli, chili oil, and more. The egg rolls will be stuffed with porchetta, provolone, arugula, and more. The dishes were done by chefs Clinton Elmore, Jeff Brown, and Rhys Davis

The dishes will be available at 40 North from Tuesday, June 18 through Thursday, July 18. One dollar of the mapo pies will go towards the Shoal Creek Conservancy.

Mexican Chefs Dinner
Fonda San Miguel will welcome chefs and sisters María Elidé Castillo and Delfina Castillo Tzab of Yucatan-based Semilla de Dioses, a condiment cooperative based in the Mexican region, for a special dinner. Dishes will include meat and vegetarian-friendly dishes, like tostadas with deer and turkey, and corn tortillas with eggs and tomato sauce. The four-course dinner will begin at 6:30 p.m. on Sunday, July 14 at $150. This is part of the classic Mexican restaurant’s all-female guest dinner series this year.

JuiceLand Opening
That new JuiceLand is now open in Mueller as of last week at 1801 East 51st Street. The juice shop is celebrating its opening with half-priced drinks on Friday, June 14 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., along with face painting and a prize wheel. This is its 25th Austin-area shop and 31st store overall.

All-Texas Whiskey
Balcones Distilling released a new whiskey that is made with Texas barley. The High Plains Texas Single Malt is made with barley from Balcones’ Blacklands Malt. It’s available only at the Waco distillery starting on Saturday, June 15 for $80.

Vegan Queso
South Congress Tex-Mex restaurant Guero’s Taco Bar now features a vegan queso courtesy of Austin-based company Cred Foods. It’s made with cashews instead of cheese.
