Sauce Odyssey, the sauce-dedicated food truck in East Austin, is now closed, as of Sunday, August 18, as reported by the Chronicle. The massive trailer was parked on 1403 East 7th Street, in the lot next door to cafe Revival Coffee.
Sauce Odyssey’s closure happened because “we unfortunately just couldn’t muster enough traffic to stay afloat,” owner Rod Crosby told the publication.
The main peg of the food truck was its interactive sauce tasting, which featured free samples from other retail companies. For those who wanted to eat — and also to serve as vehicles for the sauces — there were rotisserie chicken, lamb, and vegetables roasted on the premises, as well as bread and nachos. It also sold those sauces by the bottle.
The truck was supposed to participate in the Chronicle’s Hot Sauce Festival this weekend (Crosby was a preliminary judge at the event in 2016). He opened the truck in 2018. Recently joining the team was San Antonio chef Jared Smith, who had been the chef de cuisine of New American restaurant Feast.
