A New Poke Restaurant Is Opening In East Austin’s Plaza Saltillo

Austin is brimming with poke, and there’s another restaurant dedicated to the Hawaiian raw fish dish headed for the east side. Poke Austin, the casual Sunset Valley spot, is expanding into the Plaza Saltillo development, bordered by I-35, 4th, 5th, and Navasota streets. It’s expected to open in January 2020.

The East Austin restaurant will feature the same menu as the original location: poke bowls with the usual array of raw fish options (salmon, ahi tuna, spicy scallops, etc.) or other cooked items (tofu, shrimp, wagyu beef tataki, etc.) atop bases (grains, greens) and a whole bunch of mix-ins, toppings, and dressings. People can either choose from already-set combinations or build their own bowls. The restaurant will also expand its alcoholic offerings, with more taps and options for the new location.

Poke Austin owner Trent Schneiter opened the first restaurant on Brodie Lane in 2018.

Restaurant-wise, nothing has opened in Plaza Saltillo yet, but there has been a whole lot of changes since the project was announced back in 2017. Restaurants like Tex-Mex chain Chuy’s and San Antonio southeast Asian seafood restaurant Pinch Boil House have already dropped out of the development. The current upcoming slate includes Dolce Neve, Hopdoddy Burger Bar, Los Angeles’s the Kebab Shop, Japanese barbecue chain Gyu-Kaku, Whole Foods Market, among others.
