Popular South First gelato spot Dolce Neve is finally opening that Saltillo location that was announced in 2017. It will open on Tuesday, January 21 at 1109 East 5th Street, next door to breakfast chain Snooze.

The new location of Dolce Neve will serve the same menu of gelato made in house, with 12 flavors like traditional straciatella (chocolate chip) as well as creations like fromage blanc with apricot. There are also gelato pops and sandwiches as well as sorbet. The shop will celebrate its opening by giving away free single scoops of gelato from 7 p.m. to 10 p.m.

Brother and sister Marco and Francesca Silvestrini and Francesca’s fiancé Leopoldo Ferrarese first opened Dolce Neve on South First Street in 2014. It expanded to the Heights in Houston in 2017.

Mixed-use development Saltillo first broke ground in 2017. It was originally going to open in the beginning of 2019, but first tenants Snooze and local chain Juiceland opened last fall. Many more are still to come like Japanese barbecue chain Gyu-Kaku.

January 18: This article has been updated to reflect the development’s new name of Saltillo, and to clarify the delays in opening.
