Rs 1,800-crore plan to burn Bengaluru’s trash
The first unit will come up in Kannahalli
Bengaluru will soon have high-end trash incinerators that automatically segregate 500 tonnes of waste per day. Deputy Chief Minister G Parameshwara told Bangalore Mirror that there are plans to set up six such units in BBMP limits.

These incinerators are being procured from 3WAYSTE, a French environmental technology company. The state government has entered into an agreement with the company to set up these incinerators.

G Parameshwara, who is also the Bengaluru Develop-ment Minister, said that each machine that could cost at least Rs 300 crore.

“When all six units come up at least 3,000 tonnes of garbage can be processed each day,’’ he said, adding that the first unit will come up at Kannahalli as part of the pilot project.

The technical feasibility study on waste management was done by 3WAYSTE and Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) under Study Fund and Private Sector Assistance (FASEP - Fonds d’Etude et d’Aide au Secteur Privé).

On Wednesday, responding to an answer raised by Yeshwantpur Congress MLA ST Somashekhar, the deputy chief minister had said that the BBMP will soon set up these incinerators to burn trash besides producing energy under the waste-to-energy model. Apart from Kannahalli, the waste processing units will come up in Sigehalli, Doddabidirakallu, Linghadheerahalli, Subba-rayanapalya and Mandur.
