Bengaluru: Landlord kidnapped, murdered
The accused escaped with eight gold rings, a gold chain, bracelet and a Rado watch of the victim
A 52-year-old landlord was reportedly kidnapped and was murdered later in Yelahanka New Town police station limits. The victim is said to have owned property worth few crores in Sampigehalli area which could be one of the reasons for the murder. The accused escaped with eight gold finger rings, a gold chain, bracelet and a Rado watch of the victim. The police suspect that the murder could be either for robbery or property-related issue.

The victim has been identified as Venkatapathy (in pic), a resident of Venkateshwaranagar of Sampigehalli near Jakkur. The accused, after strangling him to death, threw the body on the road towards Mavallipura on the CRPF-Doddaballapura Road. The body was found in the early hours of Saturday at 1.30 am.

On Friday around 2 pm, he left home in his car. The car was found around 1.5 kilometres from where the body was found. “As he did not return home, his family members enquired about him with his friends. His son-in-law Avinash later approached the police in the night and lodged a missing complaint. After locals informed the police about an unidentified body, the Yelahanka New Town police found a chit of a gold which had been pledged at a shop in Byatarayanapura on Yelahanka Road,” said an officer on part of investigations.

After going through the chit, the police got to know about the victim and subsequently called his family members to identify the body. The police found out that the victim owned a three-acre plot at Sampigehalli and he is said to have had differences with his brother over the property. “The police are not ruling out the possibility of robbers having kidnapped and murdered the victim for his gold ornaments,” the officer added.Investigations are on.
