With no clarity from the government on when schools will reopen, many such centres in the city are beginning 'online classes' for select classes from Monday.

Over the last few days, teachers and school managements have been trying out the online set up and how to go ahead with the teaching programmes.

Vanita S, a school teacher said, "Starting Monday, we will be carrying out online classes for Class VII students from 9.15 to 11 am. Each session will last for 40 minutes.

"Though students have been asked to stay at home they need to attend these classes without fail. We are also planning to take attendance for such sessions. If this system is successful, then we shall increase the timings of the classes."

On the other hand, a principal of a school in the city said that they do not want to give wide publicity to online classes as the state government is yet to officially approve it.

A big issue for schools is the logistics.

Many of these centres do not have the required broadband service and they are planning to use apps like Zoom or Google Meet to carry out such sessions.

“We are facing lot of issues with mobile connectivity. We need to see how best we can do given the logistical limitations. But, the problem is that even during offline classes, the teacher finds it difficult to hold the concentration of the students.

"The question is if these classes will be effective or not, "Uma ,a school teacher in Yelahanka, said. Meanwhile, many of the schools have already asked parents to be around their child when such classes take place so that they can monitor the students as well.
