At the start of the NFL’s 2019 offseason, the Chicago Bears didn’t make any humongous splashes in free agency. And thanks to last year’s trade for All-Pro outside linebacker Khalil Mack, the Bears didn’t have any early draft picks to cause a major stir during the 2019 NFL Draft. However, Chicago still managed to ink deals with individuals who will make key contributions to the team’s potential success this season.

Of course, there is former Seattle Seahawks running back Mike Davis, who the Bears signed just a couple of weeks before trading Jordan Howard to the Philadelphia Eagles. Davis was Seattle’s second-leading rusher in 2018, and will be used to help carry the load in the backfield. Then there is rookie wide receiver Riley Ridley, Chicago’s fourth-round draft pick out of Georgia. Ridley is said to be a possible hidden gem in the draft, and despite being in a crowded group of receivers could be a significant contributor.

However, the Bears’ list of newcomers isn’t just limited to those who will be on the field. Roaming the sideline this year will be new defensive coordinator Chuck Pagano. This position was previously held by Vic Fangio, who is now the head coach of the Denver Broncos.

At this point, there’s no telling how impactful Davis and Ridley will be to the offense. And, it remains to be seen if Pagano will pick up where Fangio left off with one of the best defenses in the league last year. What can be said about the aforementioned is that they will all have a significant role in helping the Bears go further than they did in 2018.

As important as Davis, Ridley, and Pagano will be, there are other newcomers (both veterans and rookies) who will have a major impact for the Monsters of the Midway in 2019. Here are those top five newcomers.
