Fog that enveloped Billings on Friday morning apparently also diverted some flights to other airports.
The fog initially developed by the river and then slowly crept into the rest of town, said Nickolai Reimer, meteorologist with the Billings office of the National Weather Service. By 6:30 a.m., visibility was a quarter of a mile in the West End, he said.
Visibility was 10 miles at the airport at 6:30 a.m., but by 7:30 it was down to a half mile and then one-eighth of a mile by 9:15 a.m. A check on the Billings Logan International Airport's website showed Cape Air flights to Billings from other Montana towns had been diverted to Glendive as well as to Sheridan, Wyoming.
The fog burned off by noon, and then skies will turned sunny. Temperatures were expected in the low 70s, and the overnight low will be 46, Reimer said.

On Saturday, look for above-average temperatures in the Billings area in the mid-80s, which bodes well for the annual Saturday Live all-schools carnival at Pioneer Park.
The next weather system will move into the area on Sunday, Reimer said, and temperatures will drop down into the mid-60s for highs. The best chance for rain is Sunday evening.
