The Missouri Valley Chamber Orchestra presents its third season concert at 3 p.m. Sunday at Faith Lutheran Church in Bismarck.
“Lay It on Latin” features the rhythmic sounds of Spain and Latin America brought to life by concertmaster Laura Prokopyk, the MVCO String Quartet, flutist Marnie Kraft, clarinetist Rhonda Gowen and pianist Michael Langer.
The program includes two tangos played by the MVCO String Quartet: “Tango Por una Cabeza” by Gardel and genre-breaking "Libertango" by Argentine composer Piazzolla. From three-time Grammy-nominated composer Miguel Del Aguila comes “Salon Buenos Aires” played by the String Quartet, flute, and clarinet. An impressionistic contrast of color, Ginastera’s “Impressions of the Andes” features the flute and the String Quartet. “Danzon” by Cuban composer, saxophonist and clarinetist Paquito d’Rivera combines elements of jazz with Cuban dance rhythms. Also on the program are two arrangements of works by Spanish composer Isaac Albéniz and “Dance Like Crooked Antoine” by Cape Verdean Gregório Gonçalves.
