'The Complete History of America, Abridged'
The cast of "The Complete History of America, Abridged" rehearses a scene for the upcoming play at the High Prairie Arts & Science Complex in Bismarck. The TruNorth Theatre production opens today at 7:30 p.m. Other shows are Saturday and from Aug. 29-Sept. 1. Pictured from the left are Tayler Billings, Dana Morrison and Mark Kuntz.
Gateway to Science
Former North Dakota first lady Mikey Hoeven, right, is with a host of people attending the first public campaign donor pledge event on Thursday for the construction of the new Gateway to Science facility to be located just west of the MDU Resources Community Bowl in Bismarck. Phase 1 of the project consists of a 13,700-square-foot science center and classrooms. The building will overlook the Missouri River Valley and will be a hub for hands-on programs such as Science, Technology, Engineering and Math (STEM) and interactive galleries. Hoeven is the honorary capital campaign co-chair with campaign chairwoman Kathy Neset.

St. Mary's Central High School
The St. Mary's Central High School band plays their school song "When the Saints Go Marching In" at the grand opening and dedication inside the newly constructed school in north Bismarck on Wednesday. The 150,000-square-foot, $36 million facility sits on 48 acres at North Washington Street and 57th Avenue. It will be the home for 355 students.
Flag dedication
Wally Bolte, captain of the Bismarck VFW Honor Guard, is thanked by Solheim Elementary School Principal Shelly Swanson for attending the annual raising of the American flag on the first day of school on Wednesday in Bismarck. Bolte, a Korean War veteran and Bronze Star recipient, has presided over each flag dedication as captain of the honor guard for the school's 32 years of existence. Bolte spoke to the students about saluting the flag and being proud of what it stands for.

Will Dohrmann had a hat trick for Century as the Patriots rolled to a 9-1 West Region win. Kenneth Brako and Schmidt Joseph netted two goals each and Ben Weigum also scored for the Patriots. Mandan's goal came from Andrew Indovina on a header.

Dakota Zoo

WANING DAYS OF SUMMER
The Missouri River remains a magnet for activity as the waning days of summer bring people outdoors for swift rides on personal watercraft and speedboats or slower-moving excursions on pontoon boats between Bismarck and Mandan.
A MORNING STROLL
