A Pure Barre franchise fitness studio will open in north Bismarck near the end of the year.
Owner Mary Logan will locate her studio in the first floor of the four-story Schilling building on the northeast corner of the 43rd Avenue and State Street intersection.
Barre fitness incorporates ballet-inspired poses with other workout styles, such as yoga and Pilates.
Another Pure Barre franchise opened in Fargo in October. Bismarck will mark the second location in the state. But prior to this year, there were none — a fact Logan knows well.
Logan said she started taking Pure Barre while in Bozeman, Mont.
“I basically fell in love with it,” she said.
Then, in 2012, when she moved to Dickinson, she searched for something similar and never found it. A move to Midland, Texas, served as a reminder of what she was missing, so when she moved back to North Dakota to be closer to family she decided to bring Pure Barre with her.

All Pure Barre studios are run on the same class format, “so you always know what to expect,” Logan said.
Her location will have a single studio with a high-end athleisure wear shop in the front.
Hours and class times are still being determined but classes will be offered seven days a week with multiple time slots throughout the day, Logan said. There is space for 20 to 25 in each class.

Asian market moves
Bismarck’s Asian Gourmet Market has moved from its Front Street location to a new space at 800 E. Bowen Ave.
“It’s way bigger,” said owner Ruby Toman, who has tripled her store size. “The old store was too small for us.”
Toman said her inventory kept growing as people asked for more and more food styles. She has gone beyond Asian to carry African, Puerto Rican, Bosnian, Romanian and Jamaican. Eventually, she may add items from eastern Europe.
Hours in the new location are 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Friday, 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
New barbecue restaurant
"Grill master at work" announces a sign on the tin laden walls of Darrell's Brew 'n' Que in north Bismarck.
The homestyle barbecue restaurant moved into the former north Caffe Aroma space, next door to Karmin's Kitchen Table, in late July.
Owner Darrell Mathews is serving chicken, ribs, brisket and sausage from his custom-built, all-wood smokers. Daily specials include items, such as pulled pork and smoked turkey legs.
The ribs and burnt ends are Mathews' personal favorites.
And the meats come with side helpings of coleslaw, mac 'n' cheese and collard greens.
Mathews has been barbecuing since age 9, when he helped his father season meat for supper. Cooking was a chore in his house growing up but it ended up being something he enjoyed.
"What I always wanted to be was a chef," he said.
Mathews makes his dry rubs and sauces in house.
The restaurant is open 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays and Saturdays and 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday through Friday. Those seeking breakfast can come in for Black Rifle coffee and Mathews' special recipe Jack Daniel's caramel rolls from 8 a.m. to 11 a.m. daily. He also caters.
Darrel's will celebrate its grand opening Sept. 29, with live music from 4 to 7 p.m.
