The magic of the holidays begins with the 10th annual Purses and Pearls, slated for 5:30 to 8 p.m. Nov. 29 at the Heritage Center Northern Lights Atrium.
The event, benefiting the American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network, includes live music, hors d’oeuvres, a silent auction and the second annual Crave a Cure, in which local chefs will offer samples of appetizers and desserts.
Crave a Cure competitors include Applebee’s, Caffe Aroma, Toasted Frog, Caribou Coffee & Einstein Bagels, Dan's Bakery (West), Darrell's Brew-n-Que, Scheels, Starving Rooster and Sweet Treats.
The appetizer and dessert sampling will take place from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Local celebrities will judge appetizers and desserts, and event guests will vote for the people’s choice award.
“By popular demand, we expanded Crave a Cure to include appetizers,” said Kim Kuhlmann, North Dakota’s grassroots manager with ACS CAN. “We heard rave reviews last year from attendees who enjoyed the chance to discover the good food of our competitors. This event is a welcome addition in the fight against cancer.”

Participants will have the chance to find holiday gifts during the Purses and Pearls silent auction from 5:30 to 8 p.m. This year’s selection features array of new, vintage and designer purses, jewelry and accessories.
“Our community businesses and cancer volunteers always find unique items to contribute to the silent auction,” Kuhlmann said.
Tickets are $35 and available by calling 701-353-1352 or online at www.fightcancer.org/craveacure.
Proceeds from the event will help ACS CAN, a nonprofit, nonpartisan advocacy affiliate of the American Cancer Society, advance legislation at the local, state and federal levels.
