The American Red Cross is rallying volunteers to go door to door with fire departments and community partners to install free smoke alarms and work with families to create home fire escape plans. Fire alarm installations are a part of the Red Cross' Sound the Alarm, Save a Life event in Bismarck-Mandan on April 27.
According to the American Red Cross, home fires take the lives of seven people daily in the United States. Many of these tragedies can be avoided with working smoke alarms.
The Bismarck-Mandan event is part of a national effort to install 100,000 smoke alarms in 100 communities in the U.S. Information to volunteer or donate can be found at SoundtheAlarm.org/NorthDakota.
