A hotel in the mall parking lot? That’s the pitch

JC Penney is looking to sell a chunk of the parking lot south of its Boise store, and is pitching the area as a hotel site.

A sales brochure from a Spokane commercial real estate firm lists a roughly 1.5 acre parcel that currently serves as surface parking as a “prime location for hotel site at Boise Towne Square Mall.”

The offer lists the site for about $1.5 million. That commercial RE firm – SVN Cornerstone – also has similar listings adjacent to JC Penney stores near Seattle, Vancouver and Kennewick Washington.

Brookfield Properties, which owns Boise Towne Square, does not own the building or land under the JC Penney or Sears stores or their adjacent parking lots.

Boise Towne Square general manager Darren Howard said if a hotel development happens, it would not dent the amount of available parking.

“They will have an extensive planning stage if anything occurs because through any development we will maintain or expand our current parking ratios, not eliminate capacity,” Howard said.

Representatives from SVN Cornerstone and JC Penney declined to comment.
