McDonald’s continues “double drive-thru” upgrades in Boise area

The local McDonald’s franchisee continues upgrading its stores around the area.

Darmody Enterprises applied for an extensive remodel of its restaurant at Vista Ave. and Kootenai St. in Boise.

The location will add a “double drive-thru,” a layout increasingly popular for the hamburger chain. Two separate queue lanes and menu screens allow for quicker ordering. Cars order in two lanes and then funnel back to one for payment and order pickup. It’s a part of a chain-wide effort to decrease drive-thru wait times.

Vista McDonald's
Proposed site plan of Vista Ave. McDonald’s in Boise.

On the Vista site, this is accomplished by cutting overall vehicle parking from about 46 spaces to 36. The number of spaces proposed is still above the 23 required.

The remodel will also add about 153 square feet to the building, which will also undergo a thorough remodel.

The company already remodeled a number of local locations, including on Meridian Rd., on Federal Way and a flagship store on Overland.

The project will go through Boise’s design review process.
