The US Census is out today with new data on its population estimates for 2018.
The data estimates population for July 1 of 2018 — and the federal people counters say Boise had 730,246 total residents. That is 2.9% higher than the prior year when they thought 710,080 folks lived here. The area grew faster than all but six others across the country.
The numbers are for the Boise metropolitan statistical area, which includes Ada, Canyon, Boise, Owyhee and Gem Counties.
Since 2010, the area jumped from 616,566 residents – growth of nearly 18.5%.
Statewide, all but three of Idaho’s counties saw growth – part of a general trend toward population growth in the south and west of the US.
From 2017 to 2018, the fastest growing metro area in the country was Midland, Texas – which saw a blistering 4.3% growth.
