A Boise Park in west Boise will soon get a series of upgrades.
The City of Boise first acquired Redwood Park on Shamrock St. in 1994 under then-mayor Brent Coles’ effort to expand the number of parks in the city.
In 2007, the 7-acre park added a playground and other amenities.
Now, the park will see new upgrades as part of the City of Boise’s Energize Our Neighborhoods initiative.
Future new features include a picnic shelter, historical image panels, restrooms and more. The signs and a support for the old interurban railway will help illustrate some of the area’s history. The railway once cris-crossed the Treasure Valley, including Wilder, Caldwell and Boise.
“Hopefully people will be able to take advantage of learning a little bit about the history of the neighborhood,” Melinda McGoldrick with Energize Our Neighborhoods said during a public meeting earlier this year.
The city put the shelter and panel project up for bid in March. The project is scheduled to be complete in June.
