After nearly four years, Downtown Boise’s Hightower resigns

Lynn Hightower, executive director of the Downtown Boise Association resigned her position during a meeting of the organization’s board Tuesday.

Hightower will continue in her role through September 13th – right after the annual Capitol Table event.

Hightower replaced Kâren Sander in the role in late 2015. In her nearly four years in the role, Hightower established a new headquarters for the association, expanded the staff and reworked media plans and the annual State of Downtown Boise event.

Hightower said now felt like the right time.

“I started nearly four years ago,” she told BoiseDev. “It’s been a complete restructuring, rebranding, expanding and re-energizing, which has truly been exciting and satisfying to be part of. Today there’s a very competent staff, a board that’s more active and engaged than ever, the DBA is financially sound and its services are more visible and valuable than ever.”

Hightower said she feels good handing the organization over to its next leader.

“I will stay on to assist in making the transition for a new executive director as successful as possible,” she said. “At this time, personally, my immediate plans are really just to spend time catching up with my family, hopefully go camping, read some good books and catch my breath a bit.”

The Downtown Boise Association administers the Business Improvement District for the downtown area. It produces events, administers the clean team and advocates on behalf of businesses in the area.

Hightower previously served as spokesperson for the Boise Police Department, and news anchor and reporter for KIVI-TV.

Correction: While Capitol Table launched under Hightower’s time at the agency, she did not ‘found’ the event. Updated to reflect.
