Idaho Power to expand Boise ops center on old driving range

Idaho Power plans to expand its Boise Operations Center on Franklin Rd. into the site of the former Divotz Discount Driving Range.

Divotz used to occupy a portion of the land between Idaho Power’s current ops center and BMC West. Idaho Power acquired the property and filed plans for the 27.8 acre site with the City of Boise.

A two-phase project will add significant parking, a power pole yard and a new training center.

The company hopes to build the training center and parking starting this fall, wrapping up by early 2021. The nearly 20,000 square foot training center will include a large lab space, vocational training spaces, tool room, conference space and space for instructors. The proposed building includes roof-mounted solar panels.

The second phase will build out a pole storage yard as well as a significant parking area. It will include “fleet vehicle parking with surface parking and covered parking, temporary parking for staff that use the fleet vehicles, and electric vehicle charging stations,” according to an application letter from The Land Group’s Tamara Thompson. Idaho Power proposes 51 spaces for the training center – ten more than required. Two bicycle spaces are proposed.

The future phased parking area would include space for at least 200 additional vehicles.
