Arne Michalson owns a large, empty big-box location on Broadway Ave.
And, he hopes to find a tenant to fill it up.
The old Shopko store on Broadway Ave. sits empty and unused, since Shopko left the market last spring.
Michalson tells BoiseDev a popular idea could come true… maybe.
“They are weighing it pretty heavily and they’ve been through the building several times and are thinking about it,” Michalson said.
Michalson said he thinks the southeast and east Boise communities would get on board.
“You’ve got this motivated, dedicated, good solid neighborhood sentiment and the culture is going to support your store,” he said.
When we last wrote about this in October, our Facebook group sprouted dozens of comments. Notes ranged from “This would be great news!” to “Years of hope…” to “warm up the Red Card.”
The story was one of our most-read of October.
Target operates two stores in Boise – one on Milwaukee St. near Boise Towne Square, and another in NW Boise along Eagle Rd.
[Shopko is leaving SE Boise. What are the odds of a Target in its place?]
We reached out to Minneapolis-based Target Stores for comment on Tuesday, but we did not receive a reply.
“The reason they haven’t jumped on it – because it makes total sense for them to be there – because they are very focused on downtown or urban markets right now,” Andrea Nilson with Cushman Wakefield told BoiseDev last fall.
Target lists nearly 50 future store openings on its site. All but three are smaller store locations.
