Regal Theaters, which owns the Boise Edwards 21, remodeled one of its largest theaters for a new way to watch movies.
The chain spent about $200,000 to remodel auditorium two off the lobby for its new “ScreenX” experience. Regal touts the concept as a more immersive movie experience. It uses a 270° screen that is described as ”IMAX but sideways.” The screen extends on to the sidewalks of the theater for a “more immersive experience.”
Regal initially applied with the City of Boise to install a 4DX theater, which uses a different technology from the same company.
4DX uses multiple projectors to achieve its effect. Only certain scenes in typical films use the effect, which adds imagery peripheral to the action to immerse moviegoers.

Get ready to pay extra – a ScreenX movie runs $14.29 per adult ticket, while the same movie in a traditional format runs $10.29.
