Freddy’s Frozen Custard & Steakburgers opened a store on Broadway Ave. in Boise. Less than two years later, shut it down.
Now, the Kansas-based chain will open back up in Boise. In the same location.
Permits with the City of Boise indicate the Freddy’s Frozen Custard signs will go back up on the building at 2143 S. Broadway Ave. Freddys’ website also lists the location as coming soon.
The store closed in the spring of April, 2018, and the building went up for lease, as BoiseDev previously reported. Officials with Freddy’s wouldn’t tell BoiseDev in 2018 why they closed the location.
The new/old Boise location will join four other Freddy’s stores in the area, including Meridian, Eagle, Nampa, and Caldwell. It serves a menu of burgers, hot dogs, and chicken sandwiches as well as ice cream ‘custard’ treats in several varieties.

Drive thru boom
Like so many things in business, COVID-19 scrambled traditional patterns for the casual business segment. Several changes started to focus on drive-thru lanes in recent months, including Starbucks, Chipotle and Shake Shack, according to CNBC. Drive thru lanes thrived during COVID-19-related lockdowns, and meet a consumer demand for contactless service, according to the report.
A Freddy’s official told industry outlet Restaurant Business that newly-opened and existing drive-thrus are performing well.
“When you look at Freddy’s, we were positioned very well with drive-thru, carryout and delivery to take care of the needs of our guests,” chain co-founder and COO Scott Redler told the outlet.
Correction: Redler is COO, not CEO.
