A Korean Food Hall May Join Boston’s Ongoing Bonanza

Boston’s growing number of food halls may one day include one entirely dedicated to Korean cuisine. The group behind a new food hall set to open in New York City’s Midtown could open even more locations across the country, with Boston among the potential cities considered for expansion.

Group KFF, which runs Korean restaurant chains Jongro BBQ and Dons Bogam, invested $6 million into the forthcoming K-Food Gallery (218 West 40th St., New York), which will house 16 restaurants, most of which are Korean. A rep for Group KFF confirmed that it’s considering expanding K-Food Gallery to Boston as well, with Los Angeles, Las Vegas, Seattle, San Francisco, Honolulu, Chicago, Dallas, Atlanta, and Washington, D.C., also under consideration.

K-Food Gallery’s vendors, at least at the New York location, will include an egg sandwich shop called Eggdrop, as well as a boba place called Tiger Sugar, Korean fried chicken restaurant BB.Q Chicken (which already has a Boston location), Korean comfort food restaurant Marrizzang, and Jongro BBQ (which is slated to open in Boston, too, independently of the potential food hall plans).

While the plan is still in its early stages, if it comes to pass, K-Food Gallery’s Boston expansion will add to the growing presence of food halls across the city.

Time Out Market Boston debuted in June in the Fenway neighborhood, filling 401 Park Dr. with 15 food vendors, two bars, and a demo kitchen. A soaring development project near TD Garden will also be home to a food hall: Hub Hall at the Hub on Causeway is set to debut this winter, with nearly 20 vendors and several adjacent full-service restaurants and bars, including a massive sports bar and a Mexican-style restaurant from celebrity firecracker chef Guy Fieri. Additionally, High Street Place will open downtown this fall, with some of its vendors including chef Tiffani Faison, cocktail wizards and Hojoko alums Daren Swisher and Joseph Cammarata, and Pennypacker’s, a Somerville restaurant and food truck, among others.
