Christmas Takeout

Most options on this list are suitable for either Christmas Eve or Christmas Day as they’re meant to be picked up ahead of time and reheated at home.

• Alcove: In addition to dine-in options on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day (see below), the West End restaurant has a takeout menu available for pickup on Christmas Day between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., featuring dishes such as beef Wellington for three or four ($175) and various caviar options. • Big Heart Hospitality (Sweet Cheeks and Orfano): The two Fenway restaurants — barbecue and Italian respectively — are offering catering packages for pickup at the Fool’s Errand takeout window on December 23 from noon to 6 p.m. The Sweet Cheeks packages are served cold to be reheated, while the Orfano meal is served raw to be prepared at home; instructions are included for each. Sweet Cheeks packages start at $199 and feed five to seven, featuring slow smoked turkey breast, smoked ham roast, or brisket, with various accoutrements. (A la carte options are also available.) • Branch Line: Known for its rotisserie chicken, the Watertown restaurant is offering a special takeout menu for pickup on December 24 between 11 a.m. and 5 p.m., featuring a few different mains and sides each meant to feed three or four. • Café Sauvage: The French newcomer in Back Bay is offering a variety of options for pickup on December 24, including a charcuterie and cheese board ($27), seafood platter ($55), a roasted leg of lamb dinner that feeds four to six ($240), and lots more. Order by 10 a.m. on December 20.
• Forklift Provisions: The Needham-based catering company is offering a holiday menu for pickup and delivery on December 23, with options such as a porchetta dinner for four, a bloody mary kit, and sticky toffee pudding cake. Order online by December 19. 301 Reservoir St., Needham
• Lincoln Tavern: Lincoln is offering a Grinch-themed dinner — featuring “roast beast,” sides, and dessert — in half ($175) and full ($325) portions that feed four or eight respectively; a la carte options are also available. • Moona: The eastern Mediterranean restaurant is offering an a la carte holiday menu with each item portioned for two people, such as lamb shoulder tagine ($40) and sticky toffee pudding ($20). • Pennypacker’s: Home of the best porchetta in town, Pennypacker’s is offering a special menu for pickup on December 23, including a half porchetta roast that feeds six to eight ($50); a dinner for two with braised beef short ribs, popovers, shaved Brussels sprouts salad, and root vegetable gratin ($75); a la carte sides like butternut mac and cheese for two ($18); and more. • Ristorante Lucia: Both locations are serving a Feast of the Seven Fishes menu on Christmas Eve — available for both dine-in and takeout — with dishes such as baccala fritters, paccheri con salmone spricciolata, and more. $75 prix fixe (serves two) or a la carte. • Sarma: Somerville’s ultra-popular Mediterranean restaurant is offering an a la carte menu for pickup on December 23 between 2 and 5 p.m., featuring dishes like haloumi-stuffed, bacon-wrapped dates; mushroom spanakopita; tahini chocolate cookies; and more; not to mention a couple cocktails. • Scott Brothers at Winter Hill Brewing Company: The brewery’s in-house culinary team is offering Christmas pickup on December 23 and 24. There’s a full dinner for two ($130) or four ($240) that includes whole roasted capon and various sides, and there are also a la carte options such as brisket by the pound and truffle mac and cheese. • Shy Bird: Branch Line sibling Shy Bird is offering a special takeout menu for pickup between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. on December 24; meals serve two and include three sides. There’s rotisserie chicken, for example, for $45, which comes with sauces as well as duck fat roasted potatoes, rotisserie Brussels sprouts, and honey glazed carrots. • Tuscan Kitchen: Tuscan Kitchen in Boston’s Seaport, along with its Tuscan Brands siblings elsewhere in New England, is offering a Feast of the Seven Fishes menu for takeout and dine-in throughout December, ending on Christmas Eve. Dine In

The easiest way to find what’s open on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day is to go to the reservation service of your choice and search accordingly, or, when in doubt, just head to Chinatown or a hotel. But here’s a sampling of spots that will be open and, as of press time, still have reservations available.

Christmas Eve

• Alcove: The West End restaurant will be open on Christmas Eve as well as Christmas Day, offering its full coastal New England menu as well as holiday specials. • Baramor: For your late-night needs, the Newton restaurant will be open from 11:30 a.m. to 1 a.m. on Christmas Eve; it will also be open on Christmas Day — see below. The winter menu features some festive cocktails, like boozy hot chocolate and a peppermint chocolate vodka and rumchata drink. • Bar Enza: Open from 5 to 10 p.m. on Christmas Eve, the Harvard Square newcomer will serve a prix fixe menu for $155/person (add $125 for optional wine pairings). The truffle-filled five-course menu includes dishes such as shrimp scampi with black truffles; truffled beef steak with twice-baked potato; and white truffle gelato with toasted panettone. • Bricco: The North End Italian restaurant will be open on Christmas Eve, serving its usual Italian menu and some holiday specials. Reserve online; peak dinner hours are mostly booked up already, but there are plenty of options earlier and later in the day. 241 Hanover St., North End, Boston
• Cantina Italiana: On Christmas Eve, the North End restaurant is featuring a variety of Feast of the Seven Dishes specials a la carte, like calamari ripieni con liguini and a shellfish tower. Reserve online. 346 Hanover St., North End, Boston
• Contessa: The restaurant at the Newbury Boston is offering an over-the-top Christmas Day meal (see details below), but it’s business as usual on Christmas Eve. There are only a few reservations left, though: early breakfast and late dinner. 3 Newbury St., Back Bay, Boston
• Coppa: The South End mainstay is hosting a Feast of the Seven Fishes dinner on Christmas Eve from 5 to 7:30 p.m.; the restaurant hasn’t shared a menu yet, but check back on Coppa’s website soon. • Davio’s: The Italian steakhouse chain is serving a Feast of the Seven Fishes menu at its Back Bay and Seaport locations on Christmas Eve from 4 to 10 p.m. ($85/person); the menu is different between locations, but you’ll find three seafood-filled courses at each, with dishes such as spaghettini with scallops, chives, and limoncello butter; shrimp, oyster, and hamachi crudo; and a dover sole, lobster, and lump crab lemon risotto. • Fogo de Chao: The Massachusetts locations of the all-you-can-eat Brazilian steakhouse chain are open from 11 a.m. to 10:30 p.m. on Christmas Eve and Day; the regular menu is in effect, but it’s dinner pricing all day ($58 or $62/person for the churrasco experience of endless meat — Burlington and Boston pricing respectively; a la carte entrees are also available). Feast of the Seven Fishes

While the Italian-American tradition of Feast of the Seven Fishes is typically celebrated on Christmas Eve, some local restaurants host it earlier in the month or on multiple dates, while others do host it right on December 24. Here are several local options; most are dine-in only but several are available to go.

• Bar Mezzana: The coastal Italian restaurant is hosting a Feast of the Seven Fishes event on December 23; the event begins at 6:30 (or 5:30 if you’d like to attend cocktail hour) and costs $120/person. • La Saison: Boston’s Best New Bakery plans to offer German marzipan cranberry stollen for the holiday but hasn’t yet announced ordering info; stay tuned for details.
