Gerald McCoy among players not at Bucs minicamp

Offseason workouts are supposed to be voluntary, but absences are found noteworthy nonetheless. The Buccaneers assembled at One Buc Place this week for OTAs, but a few notable veterans were missing, per the Athletic’s Greg Auman:

Again, these workouts are voluntary so whatever expectation there might be for a player to show up is manufactured. Even McCoy’s absence is less meaningful after head coach Bruce Arians dispelled any notion that the veteran tackle was asked to stay away to preserve his trade value (via Auman):

The Bucs did hold a handful of players out of practice, mostly players who have undergone surgery this offseason (via Auman):

None of these exclusions should be considered significant, so far out from training camp and the regular season.
