Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout set a new career-high in home runs last night. The only question that remains is if he can get to 50 home runs this year?

Now the only question that remains in the home run department for Los Angeles Angels slugger Mike Trout is can he get to 50 home runs this season?

It is a really good question with only 33 games left for the Los Angeles Angels.  Trout has had a sensational season, despite a slight dip in his batting average from past seasons.

His slash line this season is .297/.440/.664 with 42 home runs and 96 RBI’s.  This coupled with his 8.1 WAR this season and he is making a strong case to win his 3rd AL MVP award.

You could argue he needs to steal the nickname of teammate Albert Pujols as these are the kind of numbers Trout is always churning out year after year.  Maybe when Pujols retires, he can pass that nickname off because like it or not, that is exactly what Trout is, a machine.

His career slash line is .306/.419/.582 with an average of 38 home runs and 102 RBI’s.  He’s on pace to also set a career-high in RBI’s at about 120, given his current pace.

The other insane stat is he is leading the league in walks at 99.  Not only can this guy burn you at the plate hitting, but he also has a great eye at the plate and you better be throwing strikes.  The hard thing about throwing strikes is he might deposit that on the other side of the fence.

Getting back to the question of if he can get to 50 home runs.  With what he has currently done in 129 games, he is averaging a home run every 3 games and with 33 games left, that would give him 10, if he continues at his season pace.

I think there is no question Trout gets to 50 home runs and who knows possibly more than that.  If you get one thing out of this article, it should be to watch Mike Trout.  He is the best player in our game today, a generational talent who doesn’t come around very often.  Enjoy him while you can.
