Cardinals UDFA profile: RB Xavier Turner

Today we reach the end of our undrafted rookie profiles. The last of the undrafted rookies on the Arizona Cardinals roster is running back Xavier Turner, who comes from Tarleton State.

Let’s find out more about Turner.

Physical profile

The Cardinals list him at 5-10 and 226 pounds. At his pro day, he ran the 40 in 4.52 seconds. He benched 225 pounds 26 times. He had a 33.5-inch vertical leap. His broad jump was 9-9. His three-cone was 7.1 seconds.

Background

He began his college career at Navarro College and the transferred to Tarleton State. He had to start at the junior college because of academic eligibility after initially committing to Oklahoma. He was all-Lone Star Conference second team in 2017. He was his team’s offensive MVP. He had a passing, rushing and receiving TD all in the same game.

He received first-team honors in the conference in 2018 and was Offensive Back of the Year.

He had to overcome some adversity in his senior year. He suffered a concussion in the first game of the year as the starting RB and missed a game, then was the second-string RB for several weeks before working his way back into the starting role, splitting the carries before dominating the rest of the season.

Stats

In two seasons at Navarro College, he rushed for a total of 1,118 yards, including 741 yards and four scores in 2016.

2017: 149 carries for 765 rushing yards and 11 touchdowns; 31 catches for 174 yards and one touchdown

2018: 228 carries for 1,469 yards and 22 touchdowns; four catches for four yards

He rushed for at least 100 yards in seven straight games in 2018, including five games of more than 150 yards and two of more than 200.

Highlights

Outlook

His production looks like what Chase Edmonds did at Fordham. He has a big body and good speed and strength. As mentioned in other running back profiles, the Cardinals appear to have open spots at the position after David Johnson and probably Chase Edmonds. He might be a player to watch in training camp to see if he can find his way onto the roster.
