Carson City Deputies make drug, warrant arrests
A 43-year-old man was arrested by Carson City deputies in the 5100 block of S. Carson Street Thursday evening for possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, a stop sign violation, not using a turn signal, and using a private drive to avoid traffic control devices.
According to the report, Jeffery Royce Atkins was arrested by Special Enforcement Team deputies after observing a vehicle fail to stop at a stop sign when turning into a grocery store parking lot from Koontz.
Deputies advised the driver also failed to use a turn signal when entering the lot.
The vehicle then traveled south through the parking lot, did not stop at any businesses, then turned west onto Eagle Station, using a private drive to avoid traffic control devices, according to the report.
Deputies stopped the vehicle at S. Carson and Spooner Junction, and spoke with the driver who identified himself as Atkins. Deputies asked for proof of license, registration and insurance, which he provided.
Deputies asked the man to step out of the vehicle, which he complied, and performed a "Terry Frisk" for weapons.
Deputies asked permission to search the man's pockets, and he consented. Deputies located a glass tube with burn marks and white haze coloration, indicative of methamphetamine use.
Deputies took the man into custody, and the man admitted to possessing methamphetamine, which was located on the dash of his vehicle.
K-9 Deputy Ivo arrived on scene to perform a free-air sniff of the vehicle, and alerted positively to the presence of drug odor. Deputies located methamphetamine in a plastic cup on the dash.
He was taken into custody without issue.
