Next Carson City Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss flu, UNR police, new diesel taxes

According to the Carson City Board of Supervisors and Board of Health agenda for the upcoming Feb. 21 meeting, the University of Nevada, Reno Police will begin staffing the Western Nevada Campus by July 1, 2019 in an Interlocal Agreement for operational support between the Carson City Sheriff’s Office and the University of Nevada, Reno Police Services.
The Feb. 21 meeting will occur in the Sierra Room of the Community Center, located at 851 E. William Street, beginning at 8:30 a.m.
Other information to be discussed at the meeting includes the purchase of a new mower for the Parks, Recreation and Open Space Department for an amount not to exceed $101,570.34.
The Carson City Health and Human Services Department has also requested to turn over their billing services to STAT Medical Consulting, Inc. beginning April 1.
The decision is to “minimize its direct involvement with public health billing while maintaining the highest level of customer service, and maximizing collections and timely and accurate reporting,” the agenda states.
The contract awarded to STAT Medical Consulting, Inc. will be funded by the Clinical Services, Private Vaccine, School Located Vaccines and Community Vaccines accounts.
The Board of Health will be giving an update on influenza, and will be discussing the importance of legislative involvement, as well as an update on legislative public health priorities.
“It is important for Carson City’s Board of Health and the public to be aware of the bills that may impact the health of our community,” said the staff summary.
The City Manager’s office is set to discuss legislation, and the Nevada Association of Counties is requesting support on four bills it is sponsoring during this legislative session.
Senate Bill 12 revises provisions governing telephone systems used to report emergencies.
Senate Bill 13 authorizes the board of county commissioners of a county to form a nonprofit corporation to aid the county in providing certain governmental services.
Assembly Bill 21 authorizes a board of county commissioners in certain counties to appoint members of certain local governing boards under certain circumstances.
Assembly Bill 82 revisions provisions relating to elections.
In addition, support is being asked for Senate Bill 48, a Nevada Association of Counties’ sponsored bill authorizing certain local governments to impose diesel taxes under certain circumstances. SB 48 enables rural counties to enact up to a five cent per gallon tax on diesel fuel. Any taxes enacted would be distributed in the same manner as existing county fuel taxes.
The Nevada League of Cities and Municipalities is asking for support on three bills it is sponsoring.
Assembly Bill 3 authorizes the Department of Taxation to issue additional marijuana licenses at the request of the governing body of an incorporated city.
Assembly Bill 18 authorizes a city, town or General Improvement District (GID) to install Americans with Disabilities Act compliant ramps without a utility easement.
Senate Bill 10 revises provisions governing compensation of members of the board of trustees of a GID.
