Carson City Sheriff: Suspect dead, infant rescued in standoff
A suspect who was in a standoff for several hours with law enforcement on Saturday is dead and an infant that was being held hostage is safe, said Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
At approximately 4:17 p.m. Carson City Sheriff’s deputies were dispatched to the 1500 block of Edmonds Drive for a domestic dispute call.
Upon arrival it was observed a woman and two children had evacuated the home, where an infant and suspect remained. Negotiations continued for approximately 5 hours and repeated gunshots were heard inside the residence. See original story here.
By 8:50 p.m. negotiators believed the infant was in imminent danger and negotiations were unsuccessful, SWAT entered the residence and exchanged gunfire with the suspect, said Sheriff Furlong.
The suspect died at the scene. Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the State Division of Investigation will remain on scene investigating the incident, said Sheriff Furlong. No other injuries have been reported.
The infant and mother were transported to a nearby hospital for a precautionary exam. Multiple agencies responded including Carson City Fire Department, Carson City Public Works and Nevada Highway Patrol.
The suspect's name has not been released.
