16th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Musical Festival kicks off in state capital
The 16th annual Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music Festival took over a sunny Friday evening in the state capital.
A blend of smooth jazz music combined with special art exhibits, demonstrations and art sales brought dozens of attendees to the Bliss and Governor's Mansions.
The Rocky Tatarelli Band kicked-off the festivities at the Bliss Mansion with a series of upbeat songs and saxophone solos that had a few participants step up to the dance floor.
Cherie Shipley and the "Take This" Band followed up at the Governor's Mansion with a collection of slow songs that had the audience swaying back-and-forth in a melodic rhythm.
Along with live music, a recycled art exhibit, watercolor paint sales and mansion tours kept the event filled with excitement.
Jazz & Beyond 2019 is a 17-day summer music and art festival presented by Mile High Jazz Band Association and Carson City that runs through August 25.
It features more than 60 performances, exhibits, and educational events for people of all ages, and showcases Carson City as a thriving arts community for residents and visitors. All officially sponsored events are free this year.
The jazz festival ran from 4 to 8:30 p.m. with a 30-minute intermission. Refreshments and food from The Capital's Curbside Cafe and The Souper Wagon food trucks were available for sale.
