— Fresh and Bountiful: Carson City Farmers Market returns this Saturday. 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. in Carson City. Enjoy fresh-picked produce, local meats, fresh flowers, artisan baked goods, jams, honey, crafts, live music and Carson City’s smiling faces.This week at the market you can enjoy music by Ricky D., stop by the kids' booth to make your own market bag, we have all the supplies for you. We are excited to see you all again this year.

— 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the corner of 3rd and Curry St. Jazz and Beyond music festival featuring Carolyn Dolan. Carolyn Dolan will be performing at the Carson Farmers Market. More information can be found online or by calling 775-883-4154.

— Citizen Science iNaturalist Workshop. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Foothill Garden, 1535 Medical Parkway. Calling all naturalists with a smartphone! Join the Carson City Parks, Rec & Open Space Department along with the Greenhouse Project to explore the citizen science app, iNaturalist, on an interactive and educational hike. Be a part of recording native plants and wildlife in Carson City in the ecologically diverse Rose Canyon (Foothill Garden & Trail).

— Outlaw Flat Track Races at Fuji Park . 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. at 601 Old Clear Creek Rd. Amateur and professional motorcycle flat track races. Amateur racers during the day. Pro racing 7:00 p.m. Event highlights include: Friday: East/West ShootOut; Saturday: The Duce 5K purse 8 riders, dash for cash. Open pro purse 5K each night. — Carson City Ranger Speaks Series: Local Plant Identification. 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the Silver Saddle Ranch. Carson City Parks, Recreation and Open Space will host a series of environmental education events free to the public at Silver Saddle Ranch. Learn about the topics below from a Park Ranger from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturdays. No registration necessary and all ages welcome.

— Train to Virginia City from Carson City. Event takes place from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 4650 Eastgate Siding Road. Prices for the ride range from $25-$55. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mill on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. This relaxing all-day train excursion is fully narrated with historical facts and anecdotes. Departing from Carson City’s Eastgate Depot, the 24-mile round-trip tour includes a fun 3.5-hour stopover in historic Virginia City, where you can stroll the boardwalks and explore restaurants, shops, saloons, museums, mines and more. — Carson City Intuitive Center open house event. 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at 1800 William St. No. 207. Residents are invited to an open house event at the Carson City Intuitive Center. A grounding workshop will take place at 11 a.m. followed by a healing workshop at 1 p.m. There will be a variety of crystals available for purchase.

— Vintage steam train in Virginia City. 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. at the Virginia and Truckee Depot, 166 F Street. Rediscover Nevada’s rich history in mining and mills on the V&T Carson City-Virginia City route as you meander through tunnels, canyons and mining towns aboard a restored 1914 Pullman coach led by a 1916 Baldwin 2-8-0 steam locomotive. — Guided tour of the Nevada State Capitol. Two separate tours will take place at 10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. every Saturday in Carson City. Tours typically take an hour and include both the exterior of the building, nearby memorials as well as the interior of the building. Tours are available for up to 20 people on a first-come, first-served basis. The building includes numerous historic artifacts that range from portraits of past Nevada governors to sculptures to historical items showcased during Nevada’s Sesquicentennial celebration. The Capitol remains open to the public Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Guided tours of up to 20 people can be arranged in advance by calling the Nevada State Museum’s Education Program at 775-687-4810, ext. 237.

— Inaugural Carson City Open Studios featured Saturday. 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. at various locations. On Saturday, August 24, 2019 join your neighbors and friends for the very first Carson City Open Studios Tour here in the capital city from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. This event is sponsored by Jazz and Beyond Carson City Music and Art Festival. Carson City is known for its rich history and spectacular views that inspire people from all over, many of them artisans now gracing our town.

— Ride to the Races. 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. at Reno Harley-Davidson. Ride to the Races. Register to win a free spot on this ride at the following locations Reno Harley-Davidson, Virginia City Cigar and Bar, PJ & Co. Restaurant Saloon, Battle Born Harley-Davidson and the Carson City Culture & Tourism Authority. Ride starts at Reno Harley-Davidson and includes a buffet, drinks, and VIP parking and tickets to the races.

— History talk at Mormon Station Park. 11:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. at 2295 Main Street in Genoa. The Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) played an instrumental role in the creation of Nevada’s State Park system as a whole in the 1930’s. This ranger-led talk will cover the impressive array of projects completed by the CCC crews that were tasked with creating destinations for outdoor recreation in beautiful, yet fairly remote corners of the Silver State. We will also discuss projects completed by the CCC in the Carson Valley area, and attempts to have the CCC reconstruct Mormon Station.

— Longhorn Cattle Drive and Rodeo Parade in Virginia City. 12 to 1 p.m. at C Street. The Longhorn Cattle Drive and Rodeo Parade down C Street is a kickoff to the Virginia City Rodeo & Fiesta del Charro. An up close and personal experience of these impressive animals followed by bull riding, wild broncs, mutton busting, Mexican bullfighting and more taking place at the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds.

— Mills Park Train Rides. 12 to 4 p.m. The Carson City Railroad Association (CCRA) maintains and operates Carson City’s only Narrow Gauge Railroad and Model Railroad Club. The narrow gauge railroad is approximately 1.5 miles long and runs throughout Mills Park, with a duration of about 10 minutes. The two indoor model railroads are a HO and N gauge railroad, located in the CCRA train station at the east end of the park. Train rides are $2 per passenger, and free for children under 2 years old.

— Leather tooling at Mormon Station Park. 1 to 2:30 p.m. at 2295 Main Street in Genoa. Stop by Mormon Station anytime between 1 p.m. and 2:30 p.m. to participate in a program that will introduce the basics of leather crafting! Park staff will provide all necessary supplies, and participants will be given the opportunity to stamp various designs of their choosing on a leather keychain, which will be theirs to keep at the end of the program.

— Saturday Beginning Wheel Throwing at Ogres-Holm Pottery. 1 to 4 p.m. at 1215 S. Carson St. in Carson City. The Ogres of Ogres-Holm introduce you to clay in this 6-week open start class, including open studio time, is designed to get you started. It’s a great way to relax on a Saturday afternoon. $175 for 6 weekly sessions or $45 drop ins.

— Lego Club at the Carson City Library. 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Build self-led creations through hands-on learning with LEGO Education materials. Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.

— Giddy up to the Comstock for the 4th Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro. 2 to 4 p.m. at the Virginia City Arena and Fairgrounds, 458 F Street. The rodeo returns to Virginia City Aug. 24-25 bringing with it a full force of western and cultural heritage starting off with a longhorn cattle drive right down the center of town. The 4th annual Virginia City Rodeo and Fiesta del Charro features a mutton bustin’ tournament, classic bull fighting, traditional rodeo events and a celebration of Hispanic heritage.

— Toast of the Canyon Train. 5 to 7 p.m. at the Eastgate Depot, 4650 Eastgate Siding Road.
Journey into the Carson River Canyon on an intimate experience, perfect for date night. Enjoy white wine and appetizers as you travel on a 45-minute trip south of Carson City’s Eastgate Depot. The ride is filled with scenic views of the Carson River and the canyon walls as they echo the sounds of the train whistle. The experience is complete when the “Iron Horse” steams by the passenger cars to reattach to the train to pull it back up out of the canyon.

– Reckless Envy performers at Living the Good Life Nightclub Bistro and Lounge. 6 to 9:50 p.m. at 1480 N. Carson Street. Come enjoy The Good Life debut of Reckless Envy!!!! And enjoy Walt Owens’s birthday celebration! There will be an outside dance party. Come enjoy the fun.

— Country dancing at Piper's Opera House. 6 to 10 p.m. at 12 B Street. They’re doing it again and bringing country dancing to the historic opera house! All ages and skill levels are welcome. Dancing is from 6 to 10 p.m.

— Live music at Glen Eagles Restaurant. 6:30 to 9 p.m. at 3700 N. Carson St. Enjoy live music that is sure to make you get up and dance every Wednesday-Saturday starting at 6:30-9:00ish.

— Pajama Storytime at the Carson City Library. 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. at 900 N. Roop Street. Wear your PJs for a bedtime-themed storytime! Participants 9 and under must be accompanied by a caregiver of at least 13 years of age at all times.

— Levitt AMP Carson City: The Brevet presented by the Change Companies. 7 to 10 p.m. at the Brewery Arts Center’s Change Companies Outdoor Amphitheater, 449 W. King Street. The Brevet can be traced back to front man Aric Chase Damm’s college days where he realized he had a talent for writing scores to be used in student films. This lead to a licensing deal, tracks from the band’s albums would be used in film and television, and an every-growing popularity online.

— Carson City Ghost Walk returns this Saturday. 7 to 8:30 p.m. at the Bob McFadden Plaza. For the 27th year, the spookiest historical tour of the capital city is returning this Saturday, June 1 with the Carson City Ghost Walk. The Carson City Ghost Walk is a seasonal historical tour of Carson City’s west side, a walking history lesson with a touch of the supernatural. Some of the stops on the tour include the Bliss Mansion, the Ferris Mansion, the Governor’s Mansion, and the Rinckel Mansion.

— Saturday Night Star Party at Western Nevada College . 7:30 to 9 p.m. The Jack C Davis Observatory hosts free star parties on the 2nd and 4th Saturdays of the month year round, starting at 7:30 p.m. (except when there is snow on the roads). The evening starts with a lecture on one of numerous topics and concludes with guided star viewing by one of our astronomers. Mike Thomas lectures 2nd Saturdays and Dr. Tom Herring lectures on 4th Saturdays.

— Carson Comedy Club at the Carson Nugget. 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. at 507 N. Carson St. Live Comedy every Friday and Saturday night at the Carson Nugget! Doors open at 7:15 p.m. Purchase tickets at the Winner's Club or online.

— Stories Under the Stars at Mormon Station Park. 8 to 10 p.m. Mormon Station will be holding a “Stories under the Stars” campfire program on Saturday, August 24. Park staff will read many of the humorous and insightful stories from the oral history of early Carson Valley residents. Park staff will also be providing s’mores for participants to enjoy. Participants may bring other food items to cook on the fire if they would like. Participants are also encouraged to share their own stories related to the history of Carson Valley.

— A to Zen to host Levitt Concert After Party. 10 to 11:30 p.m. at 1803 N. Carson Street. Summer is in full swing, and Carson City residents are enjoying the Levitt AMP outdoor concert series, hosted by the Brewery Arts Center. What better way to spend a Saturday night than with free live music? What happens when the show is over? More free live music!

— Canyon White at the Canvas Cafe. 9 a.m. to 12 p.m. Canyon White is at The Canvas Cafe every Sunday 9 a.m. to Noon so come on up and start your day right with some yummy breakfast and Canyon White!

— Muscle Powered Sunday Bicycle Ride. 9 a.m. at Fremont Elementary School, 1511 Firebox Rd. Come join Muscle Powered for a free, guided group walk, hike, or ride to enjoy Nevada outdoors around Carson City!

— Art Outside: Nature Journaling 101. 9 to 11 a.m. at Riverview Park, 600 Marsh Rd. Calling all creative adventurers! Join the Parks, Rec & Open Space Dept. on the first Interpretive Program devoted to Nature Journaling. Learn some simple tools that will help you take in your environment with intention and creativity as we hike along the Carson River. Bring your own notebook and desired writing utensil. We will have paper and pens for folks to use as well. Please make sure to wear close-toed shoes and bring plenty of water & sun protection.

— Cooking class at Sierra Chef. 1 to 3 p.m. at 2292 Main St. Suites 3 and 4 in Genoa. Join us for a skills instapot cooking class on Sunday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Sierra Chef Kitchen. Classes are $65 per person.
