Explosives found in parking lot at College Parkway and Goni in Carson City, bomb squad called
UPDATE 5:35PM: The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad has removed what turned out to be a plastic baggie that contained 5 to 6 blasting caps, said Carson City Sheriff's Office Sgt. Brian Mays. The explosives were brought to the parking lot area of College Parkway and Goni by a person who found them. Law enforcement was notified. All caution tape has been brought down and business has resumed back to normal, said Mays. The blasting caps will be detonated by the bomb squad at a secure location.

The Carson City Sheriff's Office and Fire Department were called late Monday afternoon to the area of College Parkway and Goni Road for explosives found in a business parking lot area between Sonic and First Independent Bank.
Circumstances as to how the explosives were found are unclear at this time, but a Carson City Sheriff's Office deputy who was at the scene shortly before 4:30 p.m. identified the material as explosives and said they were unsafe to handle and requested a bomb squad and possible evacuation of nearby buildings in the area.
The parking lot of First Independent Bank has been closed off to motorists. Caution tape has been put up in both parking lots. It appears Sonic remains open, however, the drive thru is closed.
A person on scene said the material was possibly blasting caps, which were located in a rocky landscaped area in between parking spaces.
Carson City Fire Department, sheriff's office and public works are on scene to assist. The Tahoe Douglas Bomb Squad and the Nevada Highway Patrol are also on scene.
