Sixth annual Carson City Empty Bowls Dec. 7 at Carson Mall
For six years now, the Carson City community has been helping to feed the hungry through Empty Bowls, an international project to combat hunger worldwide, with an annual fundraising event during the Christmas season.
Empty Bowls Carson City raises funds to feed those locally who are struggling with hunger.
This year's Empty Bowls event in Carson City takes place Friday, Dec. 7 from 4-8 p.m. inside the north entrance of the Carson Mall, 1227 S. Carson Street in Carson City.
The fundraiser features an all-you-can-eat soup meal, holiday entertainment, silent auction and raffle.
Cost is $15 per person, which includes one artisan bowl and an all-you-can-eat meal. Family rate of $5 per additional person includes the meal without a bowl.
"Our community, along with an amazing group of volunteers, has spent the entire year turning lumps of wet clay into ceramic bowls," Empty Bowls Carson City stated in a press release. "Local potters and artists, Girl Scouts, Boy Scouts, school kids, neighbors, new friends, even folks just visiting Nevada, have created more than 1,000 bowls this year."
The idea is simple: Potters and craftspeople work with the community to create hand-crafted bowls.
Guests are invited to a simple meal prepared and donated by local restaurants.
In exchange for a donation, guests are invited to choose a bowl from our Bowl Gallery and join us for dinner.
Please take your bowl with you as a reminder that there are Empty Bowls in our own community.
A silent auction and raffle will be held during the event. It is not necessary to be present to win.
Mall stores and restaurants along with the annual Carson Mall Craft Fair will be open during the event.
Jared Arreguini will be the evening’s emcee of entertainment.
Live entertainment includes Tom Streckel, performing Stone Soup, an ancient tale of sharing; Sierra Lutheran Choir; The Carson Orchestra; and Carson Middle School Band.
All of the money raised goes to Friends in Service Helping (FISH) to help support their food services. FISH is a local non-profit providing food, housing, and services for more than 20,000 people in Carson City annually.
Tickets may be purchased in advance or at the door. Tickets are available at Ogres-Holm Pottery and Action Home Furniture, both inside the Carson Mall.
