Carson City Sheriff's arrest log: Trespasser leaves bags behind, jailed for heroin possession

A transient man was arrested Friday morning at 10:35 a.m. in the 1800 block of Camille Drive on misdemeanor trespassing and felony possession of heroin, a Carson City Sheriff's deputy reported.

Jacob Martin Madden was taken into custody following a report of a possible residential burglary in progress. The reporting party (RP) called Carson City Dispatch and advised a male subject had just walked into his residence.

When law enforcement arrived, Sheriff's deputies located the suspect in the backyard jumping a fence. He was immediately detained, the arrest report said, telling deputies he was just trying to get his tools from his friend.

Contact was made with the residents, including the RP, who stated he observed Madden opening up the front door and walking into the home, carrying at least one black duffle bag.

Madden told the RP he was there to see his son, who returned home a few minutes later to find the suspect in the home. The son told law enforcement that Madden was hiding behind the door when he entered his home, and that he was acquainted with the suspect through other people. They were not friends, he told deputies in the report.

The son told Madden to "get the hell out of my home," and the suspect came at him aggressively, the report said. As a result, the son sprayed Madden with pepper spray from inside the residence, the report said, and the suspect ran out the back door.

Madden, however, left behind two black bags on the living room floor. After detaining the suspect, deputies searched the bags, locating a loaded syringe with a brown tar-like substance. Madden admitted that the bags belonged to him.

He was arrested and transported to the Carson City Jail for booking. Bail: $2,742.

According to the arrest report, a Sheriff's deputy observed speeding down South Carson Street, estimated to be traveling at about 50 miles per hour (mph). The suspect vehicle's speed was confirmed by radar, clocking at 49 mph.

A traffic stop was then made on the vehicle and the deputy contacted the driver, whose eyes were observed to be blood shot, watery and his speech slurred. The smell of alcohol was also emitting from the vehicle, the report said.

The suspect admitted to having last drank around 2 a.m. earlier that morning. He consented to standard field sobriety tests (SFSTs), which showed signs of impairment, as well as a preliminary breath test (PBT) that yielded breath-alcohol content (BAC) of over .300 percent.

According to the arrest report, Sheriff's deputies were responding to the area on report of a residential burglary in progress. The reporting party (RP) advised Carson City Dispatch that they could hear glass breaking.

Upon arrival, deputies made contact with a male subject, who refused to give his name, stating he pled the Fifth and asked for a lawyer. Deputies advised the subject that he wasn't being questioned about the incident, but he still refused to identify himself, giving law enforcement the same answer as before, the report said.

When advised that he could be arrested for obstruction, the subject replied, "I am not part of the investigation, so I don't have to give it to you."

Despite multiple warnings of obstruction, the subject continued refusing to give his name and was subsequently detained in handcuffs. He finally identified himself while being escorted to a patrol unit, where he was placed into custody.

A records check of the subject showed he was active on probation through the Carson City Department of Alternative Sentencing (DAS) with a clause to obey all laws. A charge for probation violation was added to his arrest by DAS.

The suspect was booked in the Carson City Jail. Bail: $6,412.

A traffic stop was conducted and contact made with the driver, who produced expired vehicle registration, the report said.

A search of the vehicle recovered a glass meth pipe with burned residue located inside the trunk.
