Carson City Sheriff: Suspect in IHOP burglary in custody; drugs and jewelry found in search
A suspect who went into Carson City IHOP late Thursday night, knocked over the cash register and took money from the till was located and taken into custody for his alleged connection to the crime, according to Carson City Sheriff Ken Furlong.
The incident happened at around 10 p.m. No one was injured and there wasn't a weapon involved, said Furlong. Carson City Sheriff's Office deputies combed the area, looking for the suspect's vehicle.
A member of the Carson City Gang Unit located the vehicle, with Washington license plates, that matched the description of the vehicle the suspect was seen leaving in, said Furlong.
The officer followed the vehicle where a traffic stop was made in the parking lot of Bodines Casino in the 5600 block of South Carson Street.
A K9 did an exterior sniff of the vehicle and alerted positive. The vehicle was searched and officers located, among other things, methamphetamine, marijuana, jewelry and coins, said Furlong.
The suspect, an adult male, was taken into custody. Cash was located on the man's person while in custody. A second person in the vehicle was detained. The case remains under investigation. Check back for updates later Friday.
