18-year-old Carson City woman arrested on three counts of assault with a deadly weapon, domestic battery
An 18-year-old Carson City woman was arrested near N. Saliman Road early Saturday morning for three counts of assault with a deadly weapon and one count of domestic battery after allegedly punching her mother in the face while holding a knife in her hand.
According to the report, Araya Vlach was arrested after deputies were dispatched to a Columbia Way residence Friday night on a report of a domestic battery where a knife had been pulled out. According to the teenager's mother, Vlach had punched her mother in the face while holding a knife in her hand, and had "possibly stabbed (the mother's) boyfriend a month or two prior."
Upon arrival, deputies did not locate Vlach on scene, and the mother advised Vlach had come home intoxicated and was fighting with her sister when the mother got between them to break up the fight, and Vlach punched her mother in the face with her phone.
The sisters began to argue and fight again, and the mother once again got in the middle, when Vlach grabbed a kitchen knife out of the drawer, raised it in the air, and began chasing her two sisters and mother with the knife, saying "I'm going to kill you."
The sisters and mother locked themselves in a room for safety, and did not know where Vlach had gone.
The mother advised two months prior Vlach had attacked the mother's boyfriend and stabbed him in the left forearm which was not reported to law enforcement.
Deputies noted that the mother's left eye was filled with blood where she was hit, but refused medical attention.
One of the sisters gave a similar statement to the deputies, but the first sister stated “it was all a big misunderstanding.” She said the whole incident was blown out of proportion, though she did agree with her mother and sister’s statements about what had occurred.
Deputies spoke to the mother’s boyfriend, who admitted that approximately two months before Vlach had stabbed him in the forearm, and had stated similar sentiments of wanting to kill them.
Deputies were unsuccessful in locating Vlach; however, early Saturday morning, during a routine stop of a vehicle deputies noticed a person hiding in the backseat of the car under a sweatshirt, who turned out to be Vlach.
She was taken into custody without incident.
