A truck driver was caught on camera white-knuckling his way across an unnerving I-10 bridge in Louisiana.
The video features North Carolina truck driver Kevric Spencer as he crosses the Calcasieu River Bridge over I-10 in Lake Charles. The 135 foot-high bridge was constructed decades ago to allow ships to pass freely underneath — but the altitude can make for some tense moments of driving, particularly if you’re in a truck.
Spencer spells out his anxiety about crossing the bridge in a CMV in the now viral clip: “We’re too high in the air! I can see too much s**t! Oh God, it’s water up underneath!”
And Spencer might be right to be a little worried. The Calcasieu River Bridge opened to traffic in 1952 and was designed to carry 37,000 vehicles per day for 50 years. Now, in 2019, it carries approximately 80,000 vehicles per day.
Even more worrying, the National Bridge Registry rated the bridge a 6.6 out of 100. The Louisiana Department of Transportation insists that the bridge is safe. State officials are currently working on a funding plan for bridge replacement. President Trump even vowed to replace the bridge if he is re-elected after he personally travelled over it in May 2019.
